Protection of user data: Zuckerberg sets to testify before Congress on April 11

Published

on

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg will testify before the House Energy and Commerce Committee on April 11. E&C Committee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) made this announcement this morning, clarifying that Zuckerberg will speak on the company’s use and protection of user data.

Here’s what the Congressmen had to say in a prepared statement:

This hearing will be an important opportunity to shed light on critical consumer data privacy issues and help all Americans better understand what happens to their personal information online. We appreciate Mr. Zuckerberg’s willingness to testify before the committee, and we look forward to him answering our questions on April 11th.

This all comes amidst the greatest existential threat to Facebook we’ve yet to see.

In 2014, a third-party quiz app developed by Aleksandr Kogan collected the data of around 50 million raw profiles. Only 270,000 some people who downloaded the app and participated in the survey, but at the time, Facebook allowed third parties to collect information around friends of friends.

Facebook no longer allows this data sharing, and had asked for certification in 2015 that this data had been deleted.

Kogan harvested and sold that data to Cambridge Analytica, a political firm that would use information on identity, social networks and likes to target demographics and influence voters. In 2016, the Trump Campaign hired Cambridge Analytica.

Following these revelations, a movement to #deletefacebook sprang up across the internet. But it wasn’t just users who reacted.

On March 21, Zuck issued his first response to the scandal, adding: “If it is ever the case that I am the most informed person at Facebook in the best position to testify, I will happily do that.”

Two short days later, the House and Senate put Zuckerberg on notice, saying that he is the right person to testify. CNN reported on March 27 that Zuck had come to terms with the fact that he’d have to testify and the Facebook team began preparing for his day on the Hill.

Check out this new Apple iPhone XR with a big screen that comes in 6 colors

Published

on

Apple just introduced the iPhone XR, a new iPhone that starts at $749 and has a 6.1-inch screen — giving it more screen real estate than the iPhone 8 Plus, which has a 5.5-inch screen.

The phone will be available to order on October 19 and will start shipping on October 26.

The new device is one of three new iPhones Apple introduced Wednesday at its annual event in Cupertino, California. It also unveiled the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max, along with the Apple Watch Series 4.

At that $749 price tag, the iPhone XR is cheaper than either of the other two iPhone models, which start at $999 and $1,099.

What separates the iPhone XR from the other devices is its LCD display, which has a lower resolution than the iPhone XS and XS Max, resulting in a lower price point. It also has a single-lens camera and is made with aluminum.

The iPhone XR will also come in six colors (black, white, red, yellow, coral, and blue) and three storage sizes (64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB).

Here’s the iPhone XR in blue:

Photos: The Infinix Hot S3X arguably has the world’s best smartphone screen display

Published

Smartphone display screens are pivotal aspect of a smartphone’s overall functionality. Asides the fact that it makes up at least 78% of the entire phone’s physical build, every operational aspect of the smartphone from the camera, RAM/ROM, processor etc is projected onto the screen. It is the final point of all the algebra and mathematical alignments that go on inside the phone.

Smartphones have undergone a major design change in the last few months. Screen sizes have gone up and display designs have changed a lot. Pretty soon users can buy phones with bendable screen which is why consumers are continually anticipating the next best thing that would render other smartphone screen display output old and irrelevant.

A 5.5-inch panel is no longer the default screen size. By trimming the size of front-facing bezels, modern phones have created room for 6-6.3-inch screens in the same form-factor. Thus, a trend has been set in motion with smartphone screens that come with a cut-out at the top which is the “notch” and a screen that stretches to almost all corners.

The trend that brought forth the smartphone with arguably the world’s best screen display

Upon close analysis of the Infinix Mobility brand, they seemed to have bitten off more than it chew with a brand’s mantra that singled out young persons as its target audience while fusing tech and fashion as its product focus but its recently released Hot S3X device shows that Infinix remains on the right path when it comes to creating smartphones with exceptional tech features and aesthetics.

It also features 500 nits screen brightness; the device will let the user experience the world almost literally. The images will be significantly larger and more vivid due to the extra viewing space. This will improve the visual experience for both movies and gaming.

Picture taking is an experience to savour on the Hot S3X as the 16MP A.I Selfie and dual rear cameras (13MP+2MP) with dual LED flash are capable of taking photos that have quality to those taken with a professional DSLR camera.

Published

on

On Saturday, President Buhari arrived Beijing to attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) holding September 3 – 4, 2018.

During the 6-day official visit of the Nigerian President, he is expected to join his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping to witness the signing of an agreement on the National Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Backbone Phase 11 (NICTIB 11) between Galaxy Backbone Limited and Huawei Technologies Limited (HUAWEI) at the cost of US $328 million facility provided by the Chinese EXIM Bank.

The bank facility is for the development of NICTIB 11 project which is consistent with the current administration’s commitment to incorporating the development of ICT into national strategic planning under the National Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).

President Buhari and his Chinese host will also witness the signing of the MOU on One Belt One Road Initiative (OBOR). It may be recalled that in 2013, the Chinese leader proposed the initiative of building the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, with a view to integrating the development strategies of partnering countries.

During the High-Level Dialogue between Chinese and African Leaders and Business representatives on the margins of FOCAC, the Nigerian delegation is also expected to sign no fewer than 25 MOUs, including those proposed by the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), and Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA).

Earlier, the President on arrival at Capital International Airport, Beijing at about 9:04 am (Nigerian time), was received by top Chinese government officials including the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Zhou Pingjian.

Nigeria’s Ambassador to China, Baba Ahmed Jidda and his wife Zahra; the Deputy Chief of Mission, Ambassador Bakori Aliyu Usman; Consular-General of Nigeria, Guangzhou, Shairudeen Oloko; Consular-General of Nigeria, Shanghai, Anderson Madubuike; and Defence Attaché, Brig-Gen. Temitope Ademola were also among those who received the President.

President Buhari will tomorrow meet Nigerians living in China before the kick-off of FOCAC on Monday when he will join President Jinping and other African leaders for roundtable sessions which will essentially discuss the report of FOCAC since the 2015 Johannesburg Summit, including the implementation of the ‘‘ten cooperation plans’’ adopted at the last meeting.

The Summit is also expected to adopt the Beijing Declaration and the Action Plan for the development of China-Africa cooperation and fashion out new opportunities to grow Nigeria-China comprehensive strategic partnership from 2019 to 2021.
